REDMOND'S AMENDMENT REJECTED. NARROW MAJORITY FOR GOVERNMENT. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION! LoNi)ON, February 11. In the House of Commons, .VI r John Redmond, in moving his hostile amend* ment to the Address in-Reply, said Government wns powerless to pass useful laws for Ireland, and the Agitation against the House of Lords would have the effect of indefinitely postponing the Home Rule question. Mr Movley denounced the Amendment, which he characterised as unpatriotic, and said it was aimed at the best friends of Ireland Mr Balfour, in supporting the amendment, strongly urged upon the Government the desirableness of an immediate dissolution of Parliament, and said he believed the democracy shared his views on the matter. Mr Healy contended that the amendment aimed a deadly blow at Home Rule On a division, Mr Redmond's amend", ment was rejected by a majority of twenty votes. February 12. Mr A. F. Jeffereys has introduced a Bill into the House of Commons to provide for the marking of imported meat.
