o (Per Press Association). Wellington, February 11. The Tariff Commission heard evidence tb-dav with reference to the recent establisWnt in Wellington of a wax vestas factory. It tended to show this would be a lucrative industry and diminish the importation of matches from abroad. it one o'clock the members and officers of the commission were entertained by the Premier at luncheon at the Club In the afternoon, one of the local ironfounders gave evidence in support of the reduction of the duty on certain appliances used in the trade, upon which heavy duty is now paid. He asked for a reduction, as these articles cannot be manufactured in the colony. Further evidence was given on the branch of the j leather industry and reasons were adduced in support of the reduction of the duty on kangaroo hides imported trom Australia. ... , The commission adjourned until tomorrow. .
