Campbelltown Notes.
« I From Our Own Correspondent j The rains last week baye cheered the heart of every dairy ist in the district, and already the grass is quite green which a week ago was parched up Considerable damage was being done by fires till the rain came. The members of the Excelsior Lodge held their usual weekly meeting on Thursday evening, when the officers for the present quarter were installed. Mrs W. Smith, an aged lady, is very ill from the effects of an internal disease. She has been ill for some months and till recently was in Palmerston, where she received the best medical aid, but any attempt a cure was ineffectual. The new mail route from Feilding proves very beneficial to Campbelltown. A letter posted in Wellington in the morning arrives here in the evening, whereas, previously it would take two days. A large meeting of dairyists was held in the Temperance Hall on Saturday, evening, to consider the advisability of taking over the factory from Mr Corpe. At a previous meeting provisional directors were appointed to valuate the factory and report at Saturday's meeting. The Chairman, Mr Ransom, and Mr C. Anderson, read reports as to the value of the factory, which exceeded that price which was being asked by Mr Corpe, who was offering the plant at a very reasonable figure, and with good terms. Nothing definite was done, but it is expected that the dairyists will take over the factory before very long. A meeting was held last evening in the Town Hall, to organise a Band of Hope. A goodly number were present, and the necessary officers and a strong working committee elected. The first meeting is to be held on Monday, February 25th. As there are a lot of children in Campbell town, a strong Band will donbtless be worked up.
