Chinamen in Trouble.
(Per Press Association). Wellington, February 9. The detectives raided two Chinese shops occupied by Joe Way and Hong Way Sam respectively, in Adelaide Road and seized a large ijuantitj 7 of biscuite, lollies and jam, alleged to have been stolen from the warehouse of E. Hawke. It appears that both CelestinJs were in the habit of dealing with Hawke, but lately owing to his refusal to extend credit, dis counted trade, but (or some time it has been known that they were underselling Hawke's clients in the same class of article. This led to an investigation with the result that large quantities of articles mentioned have been taken from the warehouse during the absence of Hawke without bc-ing accounted for, and Charles Gordon Faithful, a youth well connected and in the employment of Hawke, was arrested on the charge of stealing goods, and the Chinamen were ulso nrrested on the charge of receiving them knowing them to be stolen. All the accused were bailed out.
