o A Cup inatcli was played on Saturday, 011 the Feilding ground, between the Birmingham and Marton clubs, and the game, which resulted in a win for Marton by two runs, proved the most evenly-contested and exciting game yet played this season. A wish was generally expressed by spectators that Birmingham would prove victorious, as then that Club and Colyton would have been on an even footing with regard to the championship. The toani representing Marton was the best which they have put into the field this season. Marton went first to the wickets, and were all disposed of for 75 runs, W. Shannon (10) and G. Shannon (30 j being the highest scorers. Birmingham fielded capitally, and but for this fact Marton's score would nave been much higher. On Birmingham going in to bat for some time runs came in very slowly, while wickets were gradually falling, until F. Barlow made a stand, and he retired with 21 to his credit. Runs came slowly but surely, and when the last man went in Birmingham wanted 9 to win and excitement was intense as each run was obtained ; but with three short of victory Hedges had his timbers scattered. Hawke's and Clay's bowling was difficult to play, and the former secured 7 maidens and the la.tter '.). Had time permitted of a two-innings game being completed the result would probably have been reversed, as on Marton again going in to bat seven men were disposed of for 34 runs, when time was called. Afternoon tea was kindly supplied by Mrs Letlibridge, and much appreciated by the players. Following are the full scores : — Marton, Ist InningK. W.
