o (Per Press Association). London, February 7. In the House ol Commons, Sir E. Ashmead Bnrtlett, member for Ecclesall, moved an amendment to the Address inlleply to the efiect that the action of the Government in campelling the Swazis to submit to the Boers was disgraceful Mr Sydney C. Bnxton, Political Secretary for the Colonial Oilice, denied the truth of the statement and declared that the Government had guaranteed the independence of the King who had subsequently bartered away his rights and tins de stroyed his power. Mr Buxton insisted that Great Britain considered that the Transvaal was within her sphere of influence, and would not permit any foreign treaty unless she was first consulted. Eventually the motion was withdrawn. Mr A. J. Balfour a sorted that this had been arranged, and that a member of the House of Commons had been authorised to propose a motion of want of confidence in the Government. Mr J. Redmond has adopted Conservative suggestion to limit his demand to a mere dissolution, and the Daily News states that he has secured the entire support of the Opposition, Mr Chamberlain will move an amendment to the address on behalf of the Opposition.
