Feilding Borough Council.
O The regularly monthly meeting of the above body was held at the Council Chamber last evening. Present —His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. A. Sandilands), Crs A. It. Allan, J. Gould, G. W. Fowles, G. Say well, W. A. L. Bailey, fi. Goodbehere, H. Worsfold, J. Cowie. The minutes of the last ordinary and special meetings were read and firmedCorrespondence was received and dealt with as follows : — An apology was received from Cr T. R. Chamberlain for non-attendance. From H. Worsfold, hon. sec. Feilding Volunteer Fire Brigade, enclosing resolutions re water supply and asking' for monetary assistance to purchase 500 feet of hose. . ''; From H. Rutherford, asking that his name be placed on rate roll, in place of Woolven and Nisbett, for sections 235, 2;36, 237, 238, 239—Alteration to be made as requested. From A. Dermer, asking that his name be placed on the rate roll, in place of 1. Churcher, for sections 70,71 and 72 suburban—Alteration to be made as requested. From T Ronayne, General Manager ~ New Zealand Government railwaysj stating the Government were nnab'le at present to give increased accommodation to that agreed on (20 feet) at the Feilding railway station goods shed. , From J. Norman, account for £5 10s for use of his land to give access to ford across the Kiwitea stream on Kimbolton road. From F. Cook, objecting to pay Library rate and asking that her husband's name be placed on the rate roll in place of hers. From A. Dermer asking the Council to metal Sherwili street, from Pharzyn street to sections 70, 71, 72. From C. P. Mai, asking the Council to metal a portion of West street. From F. Flavall, Inspector of Nuisances, a report. The report of the Finance Committee, recommending that accounts amounting to £'149 13s Id, be passed for payment, was adopted. The Mayor reported that Mrs Short had applied to him for charitable aid on January 7th last, as her husband was ill. He had since been sent to the Palmerston N. Hospital. Charitable rations had been supplied until this meeting. The Mayor also reported that, with accounts passed for payment that even-'. ing, the overdraft was nearly £500; ../". From T. F. Martin, solicitor, Wellington, legal opinion re carriers within the Borough. —This was in reply to questions snbmitted by the Mayor. From E. Giesen, Agent Colonists' Land and Loan Corporation, re pro- ' posed Municipal buildings, and stating terms on which the Corporation would, . be prepared to advance the money orj erect the building and lease it to thfli . Council, with a compulsory purchasing clause to take effect at the end of the term. ,; Resolved, That the sum of £20 7s Id be paid into the Public Account, being half-year's interest on loan for Aorangi bridge. Proposed by Cr Goodbehere, seconded by Cr Bailey, That the sum of be ' placed on the estimates next year as a subsidy towards the Fire Brigade funds. —Carried. . ■ v \- Resolved, That Mr J. Norman's letter lie on the table. -; ,^ . Proposed by Cr Goodbehere, seconded by Cr Fowles, That the portion of West street, from corner of Warwick street to Mr Mai's house, be metalled during the present month. —Carried. Proposed by Cr Bailey, seconded by Cr Worsfold, That Mr Dermer be informed that the work will be done when the Council is in funds. . w Resolved, That Mr Woollams be informed that the Council is of opinion that £1 Is should be paid in respect to affixing the Borough seal to the document presented by him to the Mayor. Proposed by Cr Gould, seconded by Cr Allan, That two rations per week be continued to Mr Short until the nest ordinary meeting of this Council provided that the Mayor considers the case a deserving one. ... . Proposed by Cr Sandilands, seconded by Cr Fowles, That the offer of the Colonists' Land and Loan.Corporation, Limited, to erect Municipal Buildings according to the plans drown np by Mr - James and in terms of the second alternative contained in the letters passing between the Mayor and the Agent of the Corporation upon the subject of such building be accepted provided that a legal opinion be obtained that the Council is acting within . its powers in so doing and that Crs Bailey, Goodbehere, and the mover be a committee to deal with the matter. —Carried. Proposed by Cr Sandilands, seconded by Cr Gould, That F. Flavall be appointed an inspector for the Borough of Feilding nnder " The~ Adulteration Act, 1880," so long as he holds tb^ position of Inspector of Nuisances nnder this Council and that his salary consist' of one moiety of all fines recovered as provided in such Act - Carried. Proposed by Cr Sandjlands, seconded by Cr Allan, That F. Flavall be recommended to the Governor by this Council as Inspector under " The Weights and Measures Act." 1886," and under " The Dairy Industry Act, 1894." —Carried. The Council then adjourned.
