A Heartless Wretch.

o — HOW A NEW ZEALAND GIRL WAS CRUELLY DECEIVED. Melbourne, February 4. A man with a criminal record, named Charles Jordens, alias Charles Coben, has been arrested in Sidney and brought to Melbourne to answer several charges. Like Volasco, the bogus Count, Jordens is alleged to have made money out of the as-umption of a title which he had not the smallest right to use. In December, 1893, Jordens is alleged to have obtained from Messrs Foy and Gibson, of Melbourne, a bicycle valued at .£35 on a valueless cheque. The Detective Office was informed. Jordens conld not be found, but word reached Melbourne that I he had gone to New Zealand, had passed there as a baronet, and had married Miss Jones, daughter of a retired English colonel, on the strength of his bogus patent of nobility. He had received .£2OO with his wife, and had gone to Fiji on his honeymoon tour. Word was sent to New Zealand concerning him, and the letter mentioned the lact that he was already a ujurried man, with a wife at Fitzroy Mrs . I ones brought her daughter back from Fiji, and Jordens went to Sydney. He then wrote to his wife in Fitzroy, but as she hud been posted in the New Zealand incidents, she handed his letter to the detectives. His arrest followed, and he will probably have to answer two charges of false pretences and bigamy. — Post <- orreapondeqt.
