The extension of the mail contract with the colonies to 1898 has been reluctantly left in the hands of the Postal Committee, who expect to abtain the Orient Company's consent to the compulsory calling at Colombo of their steamers both on the outward and homeward voyage, also the abolition of the special rates for the parcel post.
