Gorton and Son's Ram Fair.
Messrs Gorton and Son held their annual ram fair at Feilding yesterday, and a continuous downpour of rain during the whole day was responsible for the somewhat small attendance, and consequently, to some extent, for the low prices obtained, compared with last year. With the exception of those offered for sale ou behalf of the executors in the estate of the late W J. Watt, the rams were not considered by experts to be up to those in quality offered for sale last year. The number of rams catalogued, 884, was 50 in excess of those entered last year, and of this number 324 were yarded and submitted to auction, being one more than offered last year. Of the 324 offered for sale only 133 were sold, this being considerably less than the number quitted in 1894. The greatest competition was for those offered on behalf of the executors in the estate of W. T. Watt, one of whose rams reached the top price (three guineas) obtained at the sale, being half a guinea below the top price obtained by the same vendor last year. In Roinneys, Mr G. Wheeler again obtained top price, but only just half (2|- guineas) of what one of his rams realised last year. Following is a detailed list of the several lots submitted on behalf of the various vendors with names of the purchasers : — On account of the Woodendean Es- ' tate — 15 Romney Marsh, all of which were passed in.
