♦ (Per Press Association.) Auckland, February 4. The Auckland Gas Compsny has declared a dividend of 7s 6d on paid up shares. The shareholders authorised the increase of the qualification for directors to £300, and the placing of the reserve in specific securities. J. T. Feild was appointed a director, vice the Hon P. L. Dignan, deceased. Messrs Reader, Weod and Upton were re-elected directors. This Day. The Board of Education refused a request to allow the- Inspector to examine the Roman Catholic schools. Only one member supported the proposal. Oamaru, February 4. At a joint committee meeting of the local bowling clubs, it was decided to hold a bowling tournament at Easter. It had been arranged that a part of the Wairarapa relief money should be given to the wife of a man named Cree, said to have beeu drowned by the wreck of the Wairarapa ; but since then it has , been ascertained that Cree was not drowned in the Wairarapa, and that he is working in Canterbury. This information was not supplied by Cree. Timaru, February 4. A committee was formed to-night to collect lands and make arrangements for the next band contest to be held here. The Government is at present negotiating for the purchase of a number of properties around Christchurch.
