Manchester Road Board.
The regular monthly meeting of tho above Board was held in their office, Feilding, on Saturday afternoon. Present Messrs F. V Lethbridge (chair* man), H. J. Booth, J. Parkiss, A. Conway, W. Gr. Pearce. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows : — From Secretary to Treasury stating the Colonial Secretary had provisionally approved of the Board's application for a loan of .£229 for construction of Cheltenham Cross road bridge. From W. Allan, asking to be relieved of the contract for widening Makino road from the end of No 7 contract as it was not paying. From J. Campbell, asking the Board to clean out a small creek leading from his property across the railway line. The Engineer was instructed to draw the attention of the railway authorities to the matter. From H. Whishaw, Dog Tax collector, enclosing cheque for balance of money due from Doe Tax for year 1894. From P. G. Francis, asking that E. J. F. Sixtus's name be placed on rate roll in place of his for section 3, subdivision L. — Alteration made. From TV. F. Fennell, asking permission to make an approach to section 27 sub-division 3, Ashurst Survey district, from Reid's line. — Permission granted. From H. L. Sherwill, Land agent, asking the Board to sign transfer giving consent of transfer of section No 147, Stamvay village, from Colonists Land and Loan Corporation to Jane Thorby. — Deferred to next meeting. From Or. Wheeler, apologising for non attendance at this meeting owing to fires having spread over his property. The chairman reported that he had mot Mr . "Whitcombe, chairman of the Pahiatua County Council, at Feilding, aod discussed the question of reducing the Manawatu Gorge tolls on stock. Mr "Whitcombo suggested that they should be reduced one-third, or it was probable a loss would result through stock being driven accross the ranges. Mr Lethbridge gave notice that he would move at the next meeting of the Board that the tolls be reduced one-third. The Engineer reported that he had inspected the Waituna creek and he found that the road in parts had gone into the stream. Mr C. Parsons (who was present at the meeting) had offered to give sufficient land for a road, which he was willing to make for £12. (He Mr Bray) suggested that the offer be accepted. Resolved, That a renewal of slaughter license be granted to Mr Edwin King, of Colyton, for the year 1895. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That the Wardens foe Nos. 3 and 4 wards, with the Engineer, be a Committee to arrange? with the contractor on the Makino road: for the completion of the work— Carried. Resolved, That the Dog Tax for the year 1895 be 2s 6d for sheep; and cattle dogs for the first three and 10s for all other dogs. • Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Conway, That Messrs Tinning and Parson's offer to culvert bridge and form road in Waituna Valley for £12 be accepted — Carried. Proposed by Mr Booth, seconded by Mr Conway, That the work applied fox by Purkiss and Son be granted—Carried. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Conway, That the tender of H. Whishaw for the collection of Dog Tax for current year be accepted— Carried^ Resolved, That Mr Conway be Treasurer for this meeting. Proposed by Mr Pearce, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That the Engineer be instructed to have a frame bridge erected over the creek opposite Bailey's mill, Forlong's road — Carried. The Board went into committee to discuss a legal opinion xc roads in the district, but nothing definite was decided on. Accounts amounting to £229 17s lid were passed for payment and the Board adjourned.
