The Gold Question in America.
| Per Press Association. I Washointon, January 29. The President's message to the Congress states that last year one hundred and seventy millions in gold were withdrawn from the Treasury for shipment abroad or hoarding at home, through radical legislation. It was imperative to prevent gold being entirely banished from the currency, and the Treasury ought to issue bonds payable in fifty years to create a sufficient reserve to redeem them and cancel the legal tender notes. The speech has only made a small impression.
