— «. THE FLOODS SUBSIDING. (Per Press Association). Sydney, January 25. Fine weather is now prevailing, and the floods are receding throughout the country. Railway communication with Brisbane has not yet been restored. The ship Bencruachan, while about to leave for Newcastle, was discovered to be on fire. A quantity of imflammables in the fore peak were alight. The flames wero extiuquished before any serious ; damage was done. Melbourne, This Day. The Leyislatiue Council passed tbe Salary Reduction Bill, but rejected the Primage Duties Abolition Bill hy 14 to 4.
