Mr Duthie Before His Constituents.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, January 18. Mr Duthie addressed ins constituents to-night. He reviewed the session's work at length. He thought the ch«ap money scheme would not be tbe success Mr Ward anticipated, and the bursting up policy of the Government ought to be thoroughly guarded until the result of the Cheviot estate, etc., was shown to be profitable. The first year he said, could not be taken as a criterion. From a persoual inspection of the Pomahaka he was confident Government paid too much, as the land was not fit for profitable cultivation. He regretted Mr Ward was leaving the colony without giving information respecting the two millions for the Bank of New Zeal and. He thought the House would have been justified in rejecting the Bank Guarantee Bill and no disaster could have overtaken the colony if the Bank was allowed to take its course. He received a vote of confidence.
