Victorian Finances.
(Per Press Association). Melbourne, January 18. The Argus puiuts out that whereas five years ago the Victorian 4 percent stock was quoted 1 1£ por cent higher in London than in Melbourne, now the quotation is 61 per cent higher in Melbourne than in London. The obvious inference, therefore, is that the time has arrived at which au AngloAustralian rather than a merely English market in Australian securities should bo established. Better still, it says, would be the formation of an international market whereby Paris aud Berlin ns well as London could co-operate with Melbourne and Sydney. The Argus adds that when the Australian Government's credit emerges from the preseut trials it will be held in higher esteem than ever, and render it possible to internationalise securite*, In the meantine investors in such securities can do much better by buying in London than iv Colonial centres and thereby help to restore Colonial credit to its old high position. Sydney, January 18. The Australian Joint Stock Bank during the current half-year intends to prepay the first instalment of tbe exteuded deposits, thus antisipating the due day by a couple of years.
