Sad Drowning Accident.
(Per Press Association.") Napikh, January 17. A sad drowning accident occurred to-day. A party of young ladies went for a picnic on the oauks of the Tutao kuri riyer. Three of them, Myra Cunningham, Ella McVay, and Ruth Roster, went in to bathe. Miss Cunningham soon went out ol her depth. Miss McVay went to her assistance, but herself got intotroublo Miss Foster went after Miss McVay, hut finding that she was also getting beyond her depth, turned ani just managed to reach tbo bank in an exhausted condition. Her cries bad called the attention of some lads, one of whom, Frank Glover, went to tbe assistance of the other young ladies. He managed, at great risk to himself, to save Miss McVay, who struggled wildly, and Glover might have been drowned had not another boy named | Fied Smith gone to his assistance Miss Cunningham was drowned, her body not being recovered for au hour and half afterwards, She was the daughter of a former ruuholder of Loburn, near Eangiora, and Pohui, Hawke's Bay. Glover has beon re commended for the Boyal Hnmaue Society's medal.
