COUNTRY POST OFFICES.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAT<. Sir, — I noticed a letter in your issue of yesterday in reference to the halfholiday for shops, signed by John Stevens. Mr Stevens goes on to criticise your leader of 9th inst iv reference to the same subject, and explains that country stores do not come under the compulsory closing clause. I am pleased to sec that he has removed a doubt which I kuow existed iv the minds of a considerable number of country storekeepers as to the position they were placed in under the Act. But it seems to me that Mr Stevens was rather evasive in his reference to stores having post offices that are situated within a Borough or within the limits of a Town Board ; and I think, sir, those are the instances you meant to draw particular attention to, although, taking it in the broader light of country stores generally, which has brought forward the explanation as above, there still remains the difficulty as to postal work in connection with myself and others who are iv a Borough or Town Board District i nless we are allowed to close for post ami telephone work ou the half-holiday. Trusting this may lead to further explanation on this question. I am, etc., J. P. Cowie. Makiuo Store, January luth.
