Correspondence.

«l THE HALF-HOLIDAY. ; TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAH. Sir, — Kindly allow me space in your valuable paper to say a few words in reference to the Wednesday half -holiday. I see by yonr report of the meeting held at Palnierston there was a letter received from the Mayor of Feilding pleading for Wednesday half -day, and using for one of his reasons that Ashurst had held a meeting and, by a majority, decided on Wednesday. From my way of thinking this meeting was, to say the least of it, most unfair, as I hear it was comprised of only six in number. No notice was posted, or verbal notice given, consequently not a third of those interested knew anything about it. On hearing of the meeting next day a number wanted to protest, but, alas! too late. This meeting was held the night before the Manchester Road Board met, and' a wire sent early in the morning giving result as stated, making sure the news of the meeting would not be known till: the Board had fixed the day. lam of the opinion had a public meeting been called and the thing talked over among those interested that Saturday would have been chosen instead of Wednesday. Thanking you in anticipation, I am, etc., Justice. Ashurst, January 11th, 1895.
