It is reported the naval progamme this year includes construction of seven great cruisers and thirty torpedocatchers. Owing to the difficulty in floating the company projected by Mr Valentine, the Nelsons will not join it, and the scheme has been abandoned for the present. If it can be successfully financed in the future, they may rejoin. Mr Valentine hopes to be able to arrange for the dis tribution of dairy produce and fruit on co operative lines. Speaking at the Royal Colonial Institute Sir William Flower stated he believed a good revenues is to be derived from the black whale fishing in Australian and New Zealand waters if an effectual close season was determined.
