London Butter Market.
♦ The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, report, under date London, December 31st, as follows : — Butter. — Soon after the date of our last issue a change was made in tbe method of giving official quotations for Danish butter, and this, combined with an injudicious advance in the price, had the result of directing buyers' attention to the finest qualities of Australian, which rose to from 112s @ 118s per cwt. last week. The demand, which was fairly active early in the week, has since become slow, and only small sales can now be made at these prices. Considerable quantities of colonial-stored butter have been disposed of, the highest price realised for fine Australian being 100s per cwt., and for fine New Zealand 96s per cwt., while extensi%'e sales have been effected at from 66s to 90s per cwt. We quote:— Prime Danish, 104s @ 120s per cwt. ; prime Normandy, 84s @ 114s ; prime Australian and New Zealand, 112s @ 118s; good do., 90s @ 112s; inferior, 50s (g 70s. Importations of Australasian during the four weeks ended 24th December aggregated 41,915 packages. I
