"While a man named Faircbild was attempting to rob a bouse at Forbes, Constable Hawkins, who was watching bis proceedings, shot him dead, the charge entering his eye. A verdict was returned of justifiable homicide. The captain of the tug Awahina, which sank the steamer Princess last month with fatal results, was found guilty of careless navigation, and has been committed for trial on a charge of manslaughter. Great excitement has been caused at Wyalong, owing to a portion of the most important claims being jumped. Under the Mining Act, any ouo or number of persons are not allowed to take up more than six men's ground, while the regulations attached to the Act permit the taking up of eight men's ground. The portions jumped are wherever eight men's ground was taken. Measures are being taken to test the right of the jumpers. Arrived — "Warrimoo, from Vancouver. The Agricultural department is taking measures to prove the adaptability of the climate to grow kapok (material used in upholstery.)
