Manchester Road Board.
The regular monthly meeting of the above was held at their office, Feilding, on Saturday afternoon last. Present — Messrs F. Y. Lethbridge (chairman), H. J. Booth, O: Wheeler, J. Purkiss, W. G. Pearce-and A. Conway. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows : — From Colonial Secretary's office, asking for particulars of licensing elections in 1891 and 1894. From C. H. Burnett, asking permission to make a stand for miik cans on the cutting opposite his property. From T. D. Brown, Constable, Ashurst, drawing attention to the fact that the question of the weekly half-holiday there must be settled in the month of January. Mr Rumble wired saying the Wednesday half-holiday was favored in Ashurst. No action was taken. From the clerk Kiwitea County, applying for £228 16s Id, one third share payable by this Board for the construction of the bridge across the Kiwitea stream on the Cheltenham Cross road. From A. Hopkirk, complaining that the Board had not replaced the portion of his fence removed by them. Also, pointing out the danger of an unprotected culvert near his house, an accident having happened there recently. From the Land and Income Tax Department stating a voucher for the payment of subsidy of ±281 5s had been passed. From Secretary to the Treasury asking how it was a loan of £228 16s Id had been applied for as one third cost of the bridge over Kiwitea siream on Cheltenham Cross road, when the plans deposited in the Land and Survey Department show the total estimated cost as L 465 9s 2d. The floods made the stream wider and the original plans were extended. From A. Paske, drawing the Board's attention to the road leading to his place. From H. Reeve, applying for renewal of his slaughter license. From T. Nelson, Ashurst, asking the Board to pay cost of repairs to his trap and harness, which were damaged owing to a capsize over a culvert. Messrs Parsons and Tinning waited waited on the Board asking that the road up the Waituna Creek be made passable for traffic. Resolved that on and after the 15th instant the Clerk be instructed to sue for the whole of the outstanding rates. Proposed by Mr A. Conway, seconded by Mr H. J. Booth, That Mr Colby's offer to sledge timber from culvert at Allerby's to make two culverts opposite the Aratika school be accepted, Mr Colby to have any timber which may be over, also, that Mr Colby be allowed to make a drive into his place subject to the Engineer's inspection.— Carried. Resolved, That the name of John Harland Rose be placed on the rate roll in lieu of Adrian Porter in respect of sub. 1 of section 10 J Manchester Block, as requested. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That the Engineer be instructed to give notice to those people who have been removing metal from the side of Mackay's road to have the damage repaired. — Carried. Resolved, That Mr Burnett be allowed to erect a stand for milk cans, as requested, to the approval of the Engineer. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Booth, That tenders be called for trimming and metalling the Cemetery road as far as Wilson's gate. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Pearce, That the chairman take the necessary steps to complete the transfer from the Colonists' Land and Loan Corporation for the deviation on the Rangatawa road. — Carried. Resolved, That this meeting approve of the action of the committee appointed to arrange for the banking business of the Board. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That the Engineer be instructed to widen the Makino road at its junction with Wilson's line. — Carried. Accounts amounting to £459 15s 6d were passed for payment and the Board adjourned.
