«. (PEE PBEBS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, January 5. A boat race between the Auckland Navala, and Devenport Torpedo corps, six mile course, ended in the defeat of the latter by three minutes. A gathering ef railway employes, A. V. McDqnald, presiding, took place at the Imperial Hotel to bid farewell to Mr C. Hudson, Railway Traffic manager^ who is leaving for Wellington on promotion Mr Armstrong, chief trafljc clerk, presented Mr Hudson with a magnificent microscope on behalf of the staff of the Auckland section. Mr Hudson suitably replied. Christchuroh, January 6 At the adjourned inquest on the body of Mra Selina Russell, found in the Avon River on Thursday morning, the jury returned a verdict that the deceased died from syncope of the heart, and added a rider to the effect that- there is urgent necessity for a public morgue, for the reception o fsuch cases. Steady rain feil for several hours this morning, and was very acceptable to farmers. Napier. This Day. The Misses Russell, daughters of Captain Russell, were thrown out of a buggy on Saturday, and both were very much shaken. Miss Russell was uncbhcious; fgr several hours. Neither of them, however, is dangerously hart.
