Correspondence.
A CONTRADICTION. TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, — With your kind permission I must take exception to the remarks of Mr Spencer, of Cheltenham,' which appeared in a letter published in your issue of the 2 r Jth ult. He says that he observed under the heading of Birmingham notes that Messrs Barlow Bros, had " given a pnblic trial of their patent milk cooler, and that they had already applied for a patent to protect their rights." I wish to give this a most emphatic denial as there was no public trial given nor have I or my brother taken any steps to procure patent rights. I may mention that Mr Spencer, before witnesses, gave me permission to apply for a patent should I be desirous of doing so, but I did not think it would prove remunerative enough. It would have been much better if Mr Spencer had taken the trouble to find out the truth of the matter from myself instead of relying on the reports of country correspondents and rushing into print. I would have given a contradiction to this sooner but only saw his letter last night on my return from the holidays. I am, etc., Frank Barlow.
