TENDERS CALLED by the BRITISH WAR DEPARTMENT.

The Stock Department haß just received from the Agent-General a copy of a notice which has been issued from the Imperial War Department, inviting tenders for the storage and snpply of frozen mutton for the use of her Majesty's forces at Malta and Gozo (an island adjacent to Malta). Copies are also forwarded of the draft lease and agreement, and form of tender. The contract will be for a period of five years, and tenders are to be delivered at the military head-quarter offices, the Palace, Valetta, Malta, by noon of the lst February next, and require to be marked no the envelope " Tender for frozen mutton at Malta and Gozo." The conditions of contract stipulate for the supply of frozen mutton from Australia or New Zealand, the mutton to be wether or ewe, not more than five years old, well fed, good, sound, sweet, wholesome; carcases weighing less than 401bs wiR not be takeu. Excessively fat mutton will not be taken unless tho contractor consents to remove all superfluous fat on tho back aud iv the region of the kidneys. According to clause 7, mutton for ratious for the troops will not, without the consent ofthe contractor, be demanded iv greater proportion than two-sevenths of the total issues of meat iv auy one week, provided that at least 14,0001 bof mutton per week is taken. The contractor will also be bouud to maintain a reserve stock of meat which shall never fall below the quantity required by thetetops for 6 month* 0 n basis of ciaas£ 7 wtwt it* at p-pgegt
