Sad Drowning Accident.
I Per Press Association.) Wellington, Deoember 23. A lad named William Mandely, son of Wm. Mandely, chief officer of the steamer Queen of the South, was j drowned near the Queen's wharf last evening. He was visiting his father and was not missed until seen floating in the water. It is believed that he fell off the wharf and in the descent struck a stringer, as when first observed tbe body was floating with the head submerged. Every effort was made to resuscitate the lad, Drs Henry and Parkes working assiduously for tjkree hours, but without success.
