Disastrous Fires at Auckland.
o (Per Press Association.) Auckland, December 21. Nothing further has been elicited as to the origin of the fire at the Auxiliary Asylum. The total number of inmates in the Asylum was over 400, of whom one-third were women. Until additional accommodation is provided the institution will be considerably over-crowded during the temporary housing ot an additional 120 from the Auxiliary in the main build, inpr. Further enquiries re the Pitt street fire show that Lester's stock was uninsured. There was an insurance of £680 on Moore's stock in the Straits Company. Markhaiu who owned Lester's and Moore's premises, was insured for .£950 in tho Commercial Union. In the Forester's Hall only the roofing was damaged.
