New Zealand Chess Association.

The annual congress of the New Zealand Chess Association will be held at the Wellington Chess Club, Exchange Buildings, during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Play in the tournament will commence on Boxing Day. So far the following entries have been received : — Wellington Ohess Club— Messrs W. P. Barraud, W. Mackay and H. 8. Cocks (private entry) Wellington Working Men's Chess Club— Messrs B. J. Barnes and J. Wood. Otago Chess Olub— Mr J. Edwards (present champion) and probablv Mr R. A. Cleland, failing the latter Mr John Mouat or Mr E. P. Grjnsted will play. Colyton Chess Club— Mr O. C. Pleasants. Wanganui Chess Club— Dr Hatherley, Manaia Chess Club— Mr Gil* bert Pearce. The Auckland and Canter* bury entries have not been received. Players will be sorry to hear that Mr H. Hook ham, who has done so much for chess in New Zealand, will through illness be unable to attend.— Post.
