Birmingham Notes.

[From Our Own Correspondent.] Our creamery is making satisfactory progress ; 400 gallons a day is about the average at present. I have no doubt tbat next year we shall see 1000 gallons a day delivered, which amount the creamery can manage with its present machinery. Just think what this amount means to the district— ,£l2 10s a day or i'3so per month. This local money dumped down means a great deal to small farmers. In fact this is the sheet anchor of the small settler. To the man of position it may not mean much. I am inclined to think that a creamery will do for a time, but, as the settlers get more cows, something else will be demanded. Mr Spencer is more than pleased with the first month. He recognises that it takes' the settler time to bring all things together that makes quantity. Mr Spencer is a thorough enthusiast in dairy matters, and a talk witli him convinces you that he is the right man in the right place. Success is assured with such a man at the head of affairs. Mr Spencer has had a holiday in Apiti, aud I am certain that he will be a friend to the cheese factory when started in that improving district. Of late we havo had exceedingly warm days and cool evenings. The beneficial effects of the rainfall are everywhere apparcut on the farms. The young potato crops, orchards, and pastures, aro all greatly benefited by the recent rains. A certain amount of bush has been cut down this year, but not so much as would have been had the banks not been filled with apprehension. What they were afraid of 'tis hard to tell, perhaps they do not know themselves.
