The championship match between Marton and Carnarvon, which was fixed for Saturday last, was not played owing to the former club not sending a team to Sandon, where the match was supposed to have been played on Mr Kew's paddock. The Carnarvon team was on the ground at the appointed time, several of the players, who live in a large district, having journeyed many miles, only to be disappointed. Naturally they are much annoyed as no word was sent of the intentiou of the Marton Club not to send a team, especially as one of the Carnarvon players residing at Bulls wired to Marton on Saturday morning previous to starting asking if a team was going from Marton. To add to the disappointment a luncheon was provided by the homo team. After waiting till one o'clock tho match was claimed by Carnarvon and a scratch match was played between teams representing Campbolltown and Sandon v. Mount Stowart. Tho combined team with ten players put together 27 runs in the first innings and 63 in tne second and Campbelltown (with eight men) 78 runs in the first innings aud tho required number to win (12 runs) for the loss of one wicket in tho second, thus winning by nine wickets. Carnarvon intends challenging Marton, the match to be played at Bulls and not to be counted for the championship as the latter forfeited on Saturday last. Carnarvon will play Foxton on January sth, Bulls on January 9th, and Feilding ou January 12th, tho latter being a championship match. Tho previous record was 551, made by the fourth Australian team, which visited England in 1884. On that occasion Murdoch made 211 (which is the highest score made in the representative matches). Tho Cup match played at Birmingham on Saturday botweeu Colyton aud Birmingham resulted in a decisivo win for Birmingham by 3 runs and nine wickets.
