The War Between Japan and China.
[PBB PBKBB ASSOCIATION. • Shanghai, December 7. China sends a special Ambassador to Tokio to discuss terms for peace. It is reported that the Japanese advance on Monkclen has been abandoned, and that Count Yaniagata's army will try and effect a junction with the forces under Count Oyamah at Nouc. It was Admiral Ting's squadron which captured Port Arthur. (Per Mail Steamer). The London Telegraph of November 7th says Japan will demand as terms of peace tho cession to her of the island of Formosa, and the payment to her of au indemnity of 130,000,000 or .£40,000,000. Another journal says Japan will demand the payment of an indemnity of iIOO,---000,000 gold sterling, with which to establish a gold standard. The progressive papers, however, demand that Japan shall insist that China yiold all her warships, arms, ammunition, and the vessels of the China Merchant Steamship Co^ They also demand that Japan shall take possession of Shanghai and its Customs revenue. It seems to be Japan's intention to strip and cripple China.
