Wanganui Licensing Committee.
(Per Press Association) Wanganui, December 4. At the quarterly meeting of the Licening Committee to-day ail the publicans in the Borough applied for an extension to 11 o'clock, relying_on evidence given at the last sitting. The application waa opposed by two citizens (Messrs Carson and Bassett), and after hearing arguments for and against, the Bench refused the extension on the ground that it was not shown to he necessary in the interest of the public. The quarter of an hour (10.15) previously given, was still allowed as the Committee believed tbey had power to grant it. This extension was granted at the last sitting, but the publicans did not avail themselves of it, although paying the fee as they had been advised that it was illegal. The committee intimated that it wonld be useless, without much stronger evidence, to make further application.
