Kiwitea County Council.
The following business was transacted by the above body after we went to press yesterday : — From J. Cotterill, asking the Council to pay him a further £10 for work on Vinegar Hill road (a previous request was refused). — No action was taken. Mr W. S. Marshall waited on Council with reference to forming a special rating district over which a loan of J9655 should be taken to pay portion of construction of Otara bridge. He was informed the matter would be considered, Messrß Ewen, McGregor and "W . Pauline waited on tho Council with reference to tbe petition re formation of new Road Board district. Mr McGregor said that when he signed the petition he was not aware a debt of £1500 would have to be taken over by the new board. If that were so would they defer consideration of petition. Mr Reid said a proportion of the debt, which was at present £1188, of tho Apiti ward would have to be taken over by the new district. Mr Jacob pointed out that they could not consider the petition, according to tho bye-laws, until the following month. The deputation were informed their requests would be considered and withdrew. Accounts were passed for payment. ANNUAL MEETING. The Clerk to the Kiwitea County Council, Mr E. Goodbohere, presided and asked for nominations for the position of Chairman. Mr Jacob nominated Mr 'Williamson, and Mr Morton nominated Mr Reid (the retiring Chairman). On a ballot being taken it resulted in a tie. Lots were then drawn, and Mr Reid was re-elected to the position. ORDINARY MEETING. Resolved, That Mr C. Bray, junr,, be appointed to represent tho Kiwitea County Council at the meeting of dele* gates to elect members for the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. Proposed by Mr W. F. Jacob, seconded by Mr Morton, That this Council declare that tho existing road through sections 171 and 173, Block IV, Oroua Survey District, be stopped between the points marked A and C on a map doposited in the District Survey Office, Wellington, numbered S O 2187 over 9. —Carried. Proposed by Cr Homer, seconded by Cr Jacob, That the petition re separation of the northern portion of the Kiwitea County to be called the Ruahino Road Board be received. — Carried. Proposod by Cr Jacob, seconded by Cr Williamson, That the Rangitikei County Council be informed that, owing to the Colonial Treasurer's refusal to advance to this Council the amount of the Kiwitea Road Board's share of the cost of tho Vinegar Hill bridge, or to recognise the Council at all in the matter, this Council is reluctantly compelled to decline to pay any part of the cost of said bridge or to assume any responsibility in connection with it, unless proceedings be commenced de novo by the Rangitikei County Council and a fresh proclamation be issued by the Governor substituting the name of the Kiwitea County Council for that of the Kiwitea Road Board. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Morton, seconded by Cr Shannon, That the Chairman and Cr Jacobs be a deputation to interview the Government regarding the matter m their letters of the 20th instant, and other matters in connection with loan monies. — Carried. Resolved, That the account (£9 12s) received from Marton Advocate re advertising loan in Makino and Oroua ridings be not paid as no instructions were given for its insertion. Permission was granted to H. Hewitt to fell bush on Council's usual terms. Resolved, That the Engineer report on the Mangatuku road as to the advisability of taking the property by Mr Parker for road purposes. Proposed by Mr Homer, seconded by Mr Williamson, That the secretary give at tho next meeting particulars relating to the overdraft of the Apiti riding, so that a fair share might be determined to be taken over by tho proposed new Ruahino Road Board. - Carried. Resolved, That the tenders of 0. MeIlroy for metalling Waituna riding at 2s 8s ; E. Charles for Williamson's road east; Nos. 1 and 2 Mangamako road Madden and Co. ; Northern line Mcllroy ; Otara road M. Doherty for an Bft track ; J. Madden and Co. for Waipuru bridge. Cr. Jacob explained the reason of Cr. Jones non-attendanco and apologised for that gentleman. With reference to the petition from settlers in the County asking for separation, Mr Reid said he did not think it was worth the paper it was written on as it was composed of pieces of paper, etc., gummed to-gether, whereas each piece should have been headed, with tho request. The Council then adjourned to December 15th.
