"VOX POPULI" IN REPLY TO " ATHLETE."
TO THE EDITOR f»K TUB STAR. Sir,—There ia little in "Athlete's" letter to answer. His suppositions and visions are not arguments. However, just a word iv final reply. Ho shows a painful ignorance of athletics and sports generally when he speaks of wrestling ovents being invariably in sports programmes, and infinitesimal amount of discrimination when ho cannot see any difference between these " exhibitions " and polo, football, etc., He will be including our tennis and bowling clubs next. Furthermore, is a majority vbto at the Sports Committee meeting, or any other meeting for that matter, a final and absolute proof that a thing is moral ? Whew ! The introduction of tho event proves thoir inability to decide, aud " Athlete's" assuranco that the high moral tone of tho sports will be kept up goes for nothing, as tho action speaks the opposite. Moreover, is the mere fact of a majority at any time, in anything, a proof the thing's excellence? Let the history of the world speak. Mere majority votes may i udicato personal opinions, they cannot alter principles or facts. I am, etc., Vox Populi.
