The Wreck of the Wairarapa

THE ENQUIRY. (r-ER PRESS association) Dunedin, November 22 James Mills, managing director of the Union Company, was further examined to-day in connection with the wreck of the Wairarapa. He produced the master's reports as to fogs, referring to the case where the Wairarapa anchored twice off Banks Peninsula iv a fog. He said many passengers, including members of Parliament, severely criticised the delay. He had a decided opinion that the anxieties of tho previous 24 hours had dulled Capt. Mclntsh's judgment. Captain Mcintosh had reported himself fit for duty. Further, he had every reason to believe he was. He did uot think any notice would have been taken whether the Wairarapa came in after tho Tasmania. One of the Company's vessels had got close to laud near Cape Brett somo months ago and the captain had been reprimanded. Auckland, November 22. All the salvage from the Wairarapa is two anchors, a quantity of chain, aud a small quantity of cargo. An attempt to get at the plate chest failed. The members of tho Court of Enquiry accompanied by Mr Jdhnston, third officer, leave for the scene of the wreck tomorrow evening.
