THE BAND CONTEST MUDDLE (Per Press Association.) Invkkcauuill, November 21. The Band Contest Committee decided to night to deposit the prize -money in the bank pending a final settlement of the dispute ; ulso to withhold payment of the Quickstep competition prizes, as these might also be affected by tho final decision. The Auckland and Campbell Islands leases were sold to-day, the rental realised being .£34 10s per annum or more than three times the upset. JDunedin, Noverab<»r 21. The hospital trustees to-day decided to fall in with the suggestion from the faculty of medicine in connection with the University, that the house surgeon should be relieved of the control of the outpatient department which would be taken over by tho honorary medical officers selected by the Trustees. At the Anglican Synod a resolution was carried praying the General Synod to amend the Canons in 6uch a manner that women as well as men shall be permitted to vote at Parish meetings and to vote for the election of Synodsmen. Christchurch, Nov. 21. Mr W, T. Glasgow, secretary ot the Custom's Department, leaves for Sydney in a day or two. The object of the visit is not disclosed but it is suggested to be in connection with the tariff reciprocity between N S. Wales and New Zealand.
