THE SAMOAN DISPUTE. (Per Press Association). London, November 20. Alan Fergusson, son of Sir James Fergusson, pleaded guilty to incendiarism at Trinity College, Glenamond, near Perth, Scotland. The fire destroyed 18 rooms, besides the museum attached to the College. The "War Office has decided to iuvite tenders for a five years' supply of frozen mutton for the troops at Malta and Gago. Tenders must be in by February Ist, and the successful tenderer will be granted, at a nominal rent, a twenty years' lease of a site at Malta for refrigerating stores. The Butter Committee has not dissolved, but the members have agreed to sell independent^ Sir C. H. Smith succeeds MajorGeneral Tulloch as commandant of the military forces iv Victoria. It has been ascertained that on the occasion of the sudden &v nuioning of the English Cabinet on October 4th, when it was thought that the diplomatic relations with France were strained, the Canadian Govorument offered to despatch and maintain a regiment wherever it was required. The Times, in its article concerning the New Zealand Government and the Sainoan questiou, states that it docs uot believe the discussion in the New Zealand House and the talk about a visit to the islands was jocular throughout, though one or two remarks may not have been seriously mcaut. It is convinced that the proposals made through Lord Glasgow in Mr SeUdon's despatches of 20th April arose out of an impression that Germany had ceased to feel a direct interest in Samoa, and were wholly devoid of any combative desire.
