A Licensing Case.

The Poit's Masterton correspondent writing under Saturday's date says :— •• In the Magistrate's Court this morning. Mr T Hutchison, S.M , gave judgment in a case in wbich Albert White, licensee of the Universal Hotel, Eket_hun_, was charged witb a breach of the licensing Act, 1881.' in having on Sunday 21et October, exposed liquors for sale and offered them for sale. His Worship found that the charge of exposure had been proved and imposed a fine of L 5. On the second charge he held that a lodger bad no power under Section 156 ofthe Act to ' ahout ' indiscriminately for all and sundry and although tbe drinks were paid for by a lodger he would convict the licensee and fine him LI on the first information His Worship instructed the clerk to endorse the license, M r Pownall, for tbe defence, intimated his intention of appealing on a point of law."
