FATAL ACCIDENT NORTH OF AUCKLAND. (Per Press Association.) Gisborne Nov. 19. The ketch Venus which was ashore in Mercury Bay has been floated off. Her timber was jettisoned and lost. Auckland, November 19. At the Agricultural Show on Saturday L3OO was taken in gate money. It was the largest attendance at any cattle show held in Auckland The body found in the Mangapai river has been identified as that of Philip Brady w hose parents reside at Ho wick Agnes Bishop, youngest daughter of Charles Bishop, setter, Te Arai, was killed by the upsetting of a bullock dray. At the inquest tbe jury added a rider to their verdict of accidental death condemnatory of the practice of bullock-drivers riding in their drays when driving bullock teams. Nakkb, Nov. 19. Mr G. H. Swan has been re elected Mayor of Napier for the tenth time. A six roomed housaat Taradale owned by Mr Frame, and occupied by Mr Ron was totally destroyed by fire with nearly all the contents to-day. The insurance on the building was Ll5O in the North Queensland and the furniture waa insured for L2OO in the South British. Oamaru, November 19. St Patrick's Basilica, the new Roman Catholic Church here, was opened yesterday by Bishop Grimes, of Christchurch. The Bishop chanted Pontifical High Mass in tbe morning and Father Hilary preached the dedication sermon. In tbe evening Bishop Grimea preached. The offertory in aid of the building fund was L 360. The church is one of tbe finest in the town. Masterton, November 19. Nominations closed to-day for the Mayoralty oi Masterton, the candidates nominated being Messrs G. Heron, R. E. Hornblow and C. A. Pownall. Wellington, This Day, Applications have been receiyed yet by the Colonial Secretary for bonuses on starch and shalo oil which have to be claimed by the cud of the year.
