Wellington Dog Show.

(PKR PBEBS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, November 16. The Dog Show opened to-day. The total entries arc 285, collies being especially well represented. Mr Ward, of Christchurch, was awarded first prize for the best collie in New Zealand with youny England, by Olton Don Orletou— Eve, Harrison and Horrax's Herdwick being second. ' Mr J. C Coupe, of Melbourne, a well-known Australian aud English judge, was sole judge at the Kennel Club's Show to-day. He expresses the opinion that tho show has made immense strides since he saw it 5 years ago, and that New Zealand's fancy is progressing at a rate which promises to put it well ahead of Australia. The collie and fox terrier classes he regards as equal to anything which can be seen in Australia. Irish terriers art coming on but are not equal to Australians. The Auckland greyhound, Roe (by Ivanhoe — Nellie) which took first prize to-day, Mr Coupe considers the finest show greyhound he has ever seen cither in Australia or England, while Torment, a fox terrior bitch, shown by Mr Triggs, Mr Coupe looks upon as equal to the famous Vesuvian the acknowledged head of English fancy. She is by Despoiler out of Diversion. Messrs Gardiner and Moor- . house's (Wellington) Woodcote Nora 111 took the championship in Irish terriers. Mr Hunter's (Napier) Lonsdale Yankee was the champion in English setters, Mr R. Wards (Christchurch) Young England thp champion in collies, and Mr Wilfprcl's (Welliugtpn) Vert Gallant, the champion in fox terriers.
