Pohangina Notes.

•Shearing is now in full swing in this district, but tbo clip is rather light, on the average. Mr Blnndell, Inspector of Stock, paid us a visit last week. The cheap money scheme is highly spoken of in these parts. It is considered to be tho most beneficial measure ever introduced by the Liberal Government, and will be of great benefit to most of our country settlers, especially those iv some of the upper blocks on the Pohangina, for they mostly consist of men with a limited capital. As the subsidy required by Government (£34), ia connection with our projioscd telephone communication with the outer world, has almost been subscribed. I hope shortly to be able to record a start being made with its erection. There seems to be confusion in tho minds of some as regards the shortest route from our township to the Salisbury Pohaugina mid Ouslow Blocks. For the benefit of those settlers and others wishing to proceed to either of the above blocks, I strougly advise them to leave the river at the junction with Coal Creek and try the Coal Creek route ; the route is fairly beaten and only requires a little slasher work to make a good track of it. The bachelors of Coal Creek gave a dance on Friday night last in Mr F. Richards' woolshed. There were about forty guests, and dancing was kept up till daylight, Mr Patterson and Misi Patterson supplied the music, and Mr S. Roberts acted as M.C. It is with feelings of, regret I heard of the death of Mr Richard Harrison. Poor Dick, who was esteemed by all -who knew him, was of a quiet disposition but a kind lnend. He only last week spoke of his intended trip to England, as soon as he fiuished his bush contract on Mr S. | Hirst's section. This sad accident caused ! quite a gloom ovor the district when it was known. There is an abundance of feed here at present, and all stock are looking well. — Standard.
