Fire in Manchester Street.
♦ About eight' o'clock on Saturday evening a cottage in Manchester street, occupied by Mr R. Sbeehy, was totally destroyed by fire. The fire was first noticed by two young ladies, who were passing at tbe time, and one of them, Miss Emma Curtis, promptly rang tho eohool bell, and so gave the alarm. The Fire Brigade, under Capt. Eade, turned out and did all that was possible in protecting the adjoining buildings. The fire had, however, too strong a bold when the Brigade arrived to enable any of the furniture to be saved, and everything was destroyed. The building was ownod by Mr J. Smith, i and was insured in the Alliance Fire Office for i! 100, while the furniture was insured for £100 in the Commercial Uniou Fire Office. Everything was safe when Mr and Mrs Sbeehy left the premises early in the evening, and the origin of the fire is unaccountable. _■«_—■■———■——■—•—»—•—»*» — • ■ : —
