The Wellington Assault Case.

In the Magistrate's Court this afterj noon seven youug men, all under 20 j years of age, was charged with a serious offence npon an elderly married woman. The latter asserts on Thursday night last she was accosted by the accused in Victoria street, and on his whistling about 18 young men auswered to the call ami 'carried her to a JJhnd lane where she declares she was knocked down and criminally assaulted by two of the gang, whom she identified. The alleged offence took place about 30 yards off Willis street, one of the main thoroughfares, at 9.80 in the evening. Under cross-examination the woman admitted she had been in the Islaud Bay Hotel all the day aud had been drinking beer there. One or two of the accused admit being present. The case was adjourned till to-morrow morning. This day. Of the young men charged with being conoerned in the outrage on a woman in Chew's Lane, W Wright, McDonald and Swede were dwehftrged, while S&ndbrook, Jaiuea Wright, Miners and Mangm were commuted for trial, bail being allowed.
