Pemberton Notes.

[From Our Own Correspondent.] A meeting of about forty settlers was ield here at which Mr Stent presided on Saturday, for the purpose ot urging the Government to make a grant of L'l2oo .0 put tbe Pemberton main road in good repair. It was resolved that Messrs T. Vloffatfc, F. Pemberton and Lay be leputed to write to the member for the listrict with that object in view. The subject of the' appointment of gentleman Dn the Commission of the Peace was also ! discussed and our representative will be expected to deal with that matter at the same timo. A lantern lecture was giveu tbe same evening by Mr Bichards, Mr London being the operator. The views were excellent, being at the same time instructive and amusing. Perhaps a more everyday selection, so that we, with single minds and understanding, could grasp the subject and benefit thereby, would have been more suitable. However the views afforded a vast field for thought in the minds of those so disposed. Tho edibles wore sumptuous, being provided by the ladies of the district Mesdames Clark, Buscoe, Carey, Red path, and tho Misses Moffatt, Kinkead, and McKinnon, and were done full justice to, the fair caterers being highly complimented on tlieir efforts. Songs were ably rendered by Messrs Clemens, Davidson, and F. H. Pemberton, and a recitation by Mr Loudon was much appreciated.
