A BRIDGE AT APITI FORD. . ♦ Our readers in Apiti will be glad to learn that our advocacy of their claims for consideration in respect to the erection of a bridge over the Oroua river at the Apiti ford has had the happiest remits, the Government having placed a turn of five hundred pounds on the Supplementary Estimates for that purpose. It will be remembered that when we discovered that no such provision had been made for this necessary work Jn the Estimates when they were first presented to the House, we wired to Mr John Stevens, the member for the Kangitisei electorate, asking " why the Government had failed to keep the promise to put a sum on the Estimates for this bridge?" Mr Stevens re plied that " The Minister of Lands said no promise was made to place a sum on the Estimates for the bridge over the Oroua at Apiti. The matter will, however, be considered by the Cabinet-" It is very gratifying to know that the influence used by Mr Stevens on Ministers has had the desired effect. There is now every probability that the bridge will be completed before imxt winter.
