At a meeting of the Dunedin Postal, Telegraph, and Telephone staffs, the ful lowing were proposed for the posMion of members of tne Board of Appeal, the finnl selection to be made at a future date : J A. Hntton, Postmaster, Oamaru ; W. \ White, Postal Clerk, Dunedin, one of the delegates to the first conference ; W. Mo Nick c, secretary to the Kalipo newspaper, and A. A. D. MacLanghhn, genera] secretary of the New Zealand Poat and Telegraph Society, and vice President of the first Conference in Wellington in 1891, A five roomed house at Burnside owned and occupied by Mrs Hay wood, was destroyed by fire It was insured in the North British for £'150 and the furniture in the same office for £100. Hawera, October 20 Dr Richards, for 17 years in practice here, died this morning. Apoplexy was the cause of death. New Plymouth. October 21. The Hon. Patrick Dignan, M.L C, a passenger by the Takapuna which is alongside the wharf, died suddenly this morning Dr Leatham was sent for from New Plymouth, but the lion, gentle man was dead before he arrived. Mr Dignan't son was with him. Wellington. This Day. Arrived — Tainui, from London.
