Show taking place on Thursday uext, Mr Gunter will not visit Feilding on that day, but will do bo on Thursday, November Ist. During the debate on the Bank Bill on Friday, the Hon. Mr Seddon stated that neither the Colonial Bank nor the Government had first suggested the idea of the bank amalgamation which was not approved of by the House. Messrs Rankin and Son's blacksmith shop, at Apiti, narrowly escaped being burnt down on Friday last, but fortunately the flames were extinguished before much damage was done. Opening services in connection with the new Wesleyan Church were continued yesterday — morning, afternoon and evening — the Rev. W. Lee, of Palmerston, preaching to large congregations on each occasion. It is notified by advertisement in another column that Mr Laing's coach will leavo Fowlers' at 7.30 a.m. on Thursday and Friday next. On the returu journey the coach will leave Feilding at 6.40 p.m. Mr G. Wheeler, of Stanway, proceeded to Palmerston by this morning's train with three trucks of fat bullocks and one of Roraney ewes and wethers to be exhibited at the Show at Palmerston on Wednesday and Thursday next. All of the stock were in the pink of condition. The continued dry weather which we are now having is causing farmers considerable anxiety, as the pasture and young crops are greatly in need of a good downfall of rain. It is stated that such a dry spring has not been experienced in this district for the past fourteen years. There is a set of empty-headed hoodlums in the Makino district who are ever on the alert to play some practical joke, but they will doubtless one day be brought up with a round turn and be made to suffer for their little capers. On Monday evening last as a buggy containing a number of ladies was leaving the Makino Schoolhouse, where they had been to witness a phonograph exhibition, the horse attached to the vehicle suddeuly commenced plunging violently, and the occupants narrowly escaped being precipitated into a drain. It was discovered that a portion of tho harness had been removed from the shafts and fastened round the animals hind legs, and but for timely assistance a serious accident would probably have resulted.
