Government Bank Bill.

WnLiNGTON.Optober 18 The Government Bank Bill was read in the House last night, the chief clause being as follows ;— " It shall not be lawful for the Bank of New Zealand to am* algamate with any other banking corn* pany or corporation, whether by busi» ness, or otherwise howsoever without the consent of Parliament." It also amends the Bank Note Issue Act of last year by allowing the Government to issue a proclamation making bank notes legal tender when any bank's assets exceeds liabilities instead of when assets exceed liabilities by at least the sum of the paid-up capital.
