An enquiry, ordered by the Home Office into charges of cruelty at St. John's Industrial Schools, Walthamstow is proceeding The Resident Chaplain, Lord Archibald Douglas, alleges that shocking cruelty has been inflicted on the children under the pretext of punishment. Bishop Moorhouse, reviewing Cardina Vanghan's suggested conditions for the' reunion of the Christian Churches, contends that submission to Rome is impossible. Protestants, he says, cannot sacri fice truth, freedom and self-respect St. Petersburg, October 17. Four doctors, who are in attendance on the Czar, have issued a bulletin that the disease of the kidneys has not improved, and his strength is dimishing.
